Palm Spring Aerial TramwayThe Palm Springs Aerial Tramway in Palm Springs opened in 1963 as a way of getting from the warmer floor of the Coachella Valley to near the top of the cooler San Jacinto Peak. Today, the tram is one of the biggest attractions in Southern California. In 2000 the world’s largest, 360 rotating cars were installed. The eight-and-a-half-minute ride beginning at the Valley Station deposits you at the Mountain Station, 8516 feet above sea level. The air can be as much as 40°F (25°C) cooler at the top than in the desert. Visitors can walk along nature trails, or play in the snow during the winter months. Back-country hiking can be done with a permit from the U.S. Forest Service. There are two restaurants at the summit. The view at the top can stretch northward for more than 200 miles on a clear day. Views to the east and west can stretch as far as 75 miles (120 km); the Salton Sea can be seen to the southeast. In other words: “On A Clear Day You Can See Forever.”

Humana Challenge Golf Tournament The Bob Hope Classic is a professional golf tournament played each January in the Coachella Valley. Founded as the Palm Springs Golf Classic in 1960, the tournament evolved from the Thunderbird Invitational that was held in Palm Springs from 1954 to 1959.
Planning to begin a new golf tournament format, the Bob Hope Classic will be changed to the Humana Classic starting in 2012. The Humana Challenge will still pay tribute to the legacy of Bob Hope, but it will also represent a new and fresh change to the mission behind the tournament as well as bring subtle changes to the amateur and professional golfer formats. Attendance at the 67th annual Riverside County Fair & National Date Festival reached 282,334 in 2013. The Grandstand Arena played host to many exciting shows, such as Monster Trucks, Demolition Derby, Bull-O –Rama and Fiesta Del Charro. The Camel and Ostrich races, a longstanding tradition and family favorite, were back to delight audiences for another year. Quality entertainment and reasonable admission prices drew families from around Southern California that came to enjoy everything the Fair has to offer – from farm animals to exhibits to the engaging Nightly Musical Pageant. Included in the price of admission were memorable performances by Lifehouse, Wynonna & The Big Noise, Aaron Lewis and Voz De Mando, who had the crowds singing along and dancing in the aisles!
